Project 001.6
Supporting an outreach program for street kids in Hanoi, Vietnam
What did my donation go towards?
001 supported an outreach program for street kids in Hanoi. The program assists children living on the streets to return home, or if this is not possible, it provides the children with opportunities to get off the streets and into a stable situation.
Many children living on the streets in Hanoi are often from poor rural areas outside Hanoi and have run away from home. Some want to be reunited with their families, but don’t have the money to get home or are fearful of repercussions once they return. For runaways such as this, the program aims to reunite them with their families.
Other children are on the streets because they have no family, or no family that can care for them. Children such as this may be offered a place in the Blue Dragon residential program.
Who is 001 partnering with?
001 is working with Blue Dragon Children’s Foundation. Blue Dragon is a grassroots NGO working with disadvantaged children in Vietnam. Blue Dragon is registered as a not-for-profit association in Australia, and holds a Permit to Operate in Vietnam.
Blue Dragon reaches out to kids in crisis throughout Vietnam. Its residential facilities, centers, and programs give children and youth a new chance in life: the chance to have a home, a good education, and a happy, stable life.
Blue Dragon aims to break the poverty cycle by offering education, training, and job opportunities to those who need them the most: street kids, child victims of trafficking, and the rural poor.
Who is implementing the project?
The Outreach program will be run by a team of two Blue Dragon staff members, one a former street kid and Blue Dragon beneficiary. The two staff spend many days and evenings in the areas street kids are known to frequent. It often takes several weeks for the team to build up trust with the children to enable them to reunite the children with their families, or enroll them in a school or training program.
What was 001’s financial support?
001 provided $1,000 to support this outreach program.
Who evaluated the project?
Blue Dragon Children’s Foundation will provide a report on the progress of the project.
